For a planet, it is important that the nearest stars are stable in brightness. Although the brightness of each star increases over time, it should not be too harsh, or it can simply burn everything on the nearest planet.
Since the Earth is a terrestrial planet and is habitable, it is assumed that a planet must be composed of rocks, not gases. Therefore, we do not expect to find life in gas giants like Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus.
However, there may be life on the cloud tops of these planets, but it is highly unlikely since there is no surface and the gravity of these planets is very high.
As stated earlier, since we do not know of the existence of any life outside Earth, these assumptions are deduced from the particular conditions that sustain life on Earth.
If, however, there are organisms that can survive in totally different conditions than we experience here on Earth, then who really knows.
